Report: Tottenham have included player in offer to sign Lyon striker Moussa Dembele

that Tottenham Hotspur have included midfielder Victor Wanyama in an offer to sign Olympique Lyonnais striker Moussa Dembele this month.

Spurs are desperate to sign a new forward with Harry Kane ruled out until April with a hamstring tear. The north Londoners have been linked with plenty for forwards, including Odsonne Edouard and Krzysztof Piatek.

The 23-year-old Frenchman has been in excellent form for Lyon this season, scoring 13 goals in 27 appearances throughout 2019-20. He has scored 33 in 73 games in total for the French side, and has attracted interest because of such a rate of goals.

Linked with the majority of Premier League’s biggest sides including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, Tottenham are also said to be interested. Now, the north Londoners are said to be interested – but are lacking in spending power.

Lyon want £50million for Dembele, but in order to reduce that asking price – Spurs have looked to include midfielder Wanyama in the deal to reduce the fee. It remains to be seen if Lyon want to sign Kenya skipper Wanyama.

TBR’s view – Dembele would be a stunning signing, maybe too good

That is because Tottenham need a striker that is as good as can be, but is also happy to play back-up to England skipper Harry Kane. While Kane does suffer a lengthy injury normally in January or February every season, he is undisputed first choice.

When he is fit, he plays. In terms of strikers in European football, he is one of the best. Unless your name is Robert Lewandowski or Karim Benzema, Kane is likely to start ahead of you. Dembele is not as good as Kane.

However, he is a top, top forward. Would he be happy to remain back-up while Kane is fit, and start maybe 10-15 games a season in all competitions? Dembele is probably too good for that. Piatek is a much more suitable option.
