Report: Tottenham have £18m bid rejected for goalkeeper, Arsenal and Liverpool also linked

that Tottenham Hotspur have had an £18million bid rejected for Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, with Liverpool and Arsenal also keeping tabs on the Turkey international.

Cakir, 24, has sprung on to many European clubs’ shortlists this season after an excellent campaign between the sticks with Trabzonspor. The claret and blue Turkish side currently sit at the top of the Turkish SuperLig, but only on goal difference.

Tottenham are believed to have been interested for quite some time in Cakir, with Jose Mourinho a big fan of Turkish football – Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi is also a target. Their £18million offer, though, has been rejected.

However, Spurs have not given up and it is believed the north London side will increase their bid to £24million after the global health crisis. Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested, keeping tabs on the situation.

TBR’s view – Do Tottenham need a new goalkeeper?

Hugo Lloris returned after a dislocated elbow to impress between the sticks, but the general consensus is that the north Londoners will need a new goalkeeper in the near future – and Cakir could be that man.

Whether the Turkish ace is good enough for the Premier League and to cope with the pressures of an expectant Spurs fanbase, remains to be seen. At £24million, he seems expensive, but Mourinho needs to be trusted in the market.
