Report: Tottenham handed potential transfer boost as Chelsea’s talks over signing ‘brilliant’ defender stall

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a potential transfer boost in their pursuit of Josko Gvardiol, wiꦉth reporting that Chelsea’s talks with RB Leipzig over the defender have stalled for now.

The north Londoners conceded first yet again duriꦅng their 2-2 draw with Brentford yesterday, making that nine consecutive games they’ve gone behind.

Conte was without World Cup winner Cristian Romero, but both Eric Dier and Clement Lenglet started and Spurs looked far from assured a♑t the back.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Gvardiol over the past year, with claiming that his countryman Ivan Perisic was taskedꦏ with convincing the 20-year-old to jo🅰in him in north London during the World Cup.

After the 20-year-old’s eye-catching displays in Qatar, he’s received firm interest from the likes of Manchester City, while Chelsea 🅘have been tracking the player since the summer. But it seems that Blues have put negotiations for the Croatian 💎star on hold ahead of the January window.

Chelsea talks over Gvardiol stall

reports that Graham Potter’s men have been in negotiations with Leipzig over Gvardiol since ꦜthe summer.

But due to his outstanding performances at the World Cup, the German side are happy to wait until next summer to sell their s♎tar.

Chelsea are now in talks with Monaco over signing Benoit Badiashile in January, but it was Leipzig’s stance that has forced them into considering al🦩t🌱ernatives.

The outlet notes that Gvardiol remains Chelsea’s top tඣarget, but his asking price is rising due to interest from other top club🐬s.

The Leipzig star was labelled ‘brilliantඣ’ by Jurgen Klinsmann during the World Cup after his impressive displays for Croatia.

But his stock has certainly risen since♊ his performances in Qatar and Spurs w🐲ill now face a tough task in bringing him to north London.

TBR View: Gvardiol deal seems unlikely for Spurs now

Spurs may have had a better opportunity to land Gvardiol last summer, although they still faced stiff 🥃com🌄petition for his signature.

After his World Cup displays, it’s like💮ly that a host of clubs will be interested and he may well be out ꦜof reach for Tottenham now.

Spurs certainly need a top ceꦡntre-back, despite the fact they brought in Lenglet over the summer. Bu💜t it remains to be seen whether they will back Conte properly in the upcoming transfer window.
