Report: Tottenham express interest in 27-year-old Newcastle want

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are amongst the sides battling for the signature of Matthias Ginter, , as he prepares to leave Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Ginter is out of contract with the Bundesliga side in the summer. Unfortunately, their performances have probably done little to convince the defender to stick around.

Gladbach have lost four of their last five. And they are only two points above the relegation play-off place. Only two sides boast a worst defensive record this term.

And Ginter has now put a number of teams on alert. , he has now confirmed that he will not be signing a new contract. He could potentially open talks with teams abroad in the coming days.

There is certainly a strong contingent from the Premier League looking to sign the 27-year-old. Jeunes Footeux reports that Newcastle, Spurs and Chelsea all want Ginter. And they have all expressed an interest.

Matthias Ginter looks an ideal target for Tottenham after featuring in back three

The Magpies’ interest is not new. In fact, it was reported earlier this month that an offer from Tyneside had already been made. The two parties had apparently entered into talks.

Tottenham meanwhile, were linked in the summer. And plenty of supporters were impressed following a performance of his back at Euro 2020.

Much has changed at Spurs since those links. But interestingly, Ginter has had plenty of experience playing in a back three, predominantly on the right. And that may clearly be of interest to Antonio Conte.

Obviously, Borussia Mönchengladbach have had an extremely poor season so far. And that may leave some Tottenham fans feeling wary of a move. Certainly, there have been more exciting names linked with a move.

But on a free transfer, it could be a masterstroke to sign a Germany international heading into the peak years of his career.
