Foyth has not yet appeared for Spurs in 2020/21, and made just seven appearances in all competitions last term.

There is only one thing left to agree on between the two clubs before a deal can complete, and that is whether the terms of Foyth’s loan will include an option-to-buy clause.

It is anticipated that an agreement on that front will soon be reached.

Foyth has also recently been a reported target for Valencia, but it appears he is very much Villarreal’s transfer opportunity to lose as things stand.

TBR’s View – Tottenham should avoid option to buy if possible

It would probably be better for Spurs to avoid an option-to-buy if possible.

It could be that £21,500-a-week star Foyth () has a really good season over in La Liga and he proves his worth to Spurs, something he has had very little chance to do in the past few years.

With Toby Alderweireld past his prime now at the age of 31, Foyth could stake a claim to be the Belgian’s long-term replacement if he has a coming-of-age season.

If the move doesn’t work out, then it’s not like Spurs forked out a huge sum for the player (£8 million, )- they should at least be able to recoup what they paid if they wanted to sell.
