Report: Tottenham are now weighing up swoop for midfielder whose club are willing to sell in January
Tottenham are keeping tabs on the progress of Sao Paulo midfielder Pablo Maia ahead of the January transfer window.
report that West Ham are also keen on the 20-year-old but want to sign him on loan when the transfer market resumes.
Sao Paulo are open to a sale and would actually prefer that option over a temporary transfer, with Fulham also lurking too.
Spurs are tracking Maia’s development in Brazil but he seems likely to be one for the future rather than someone who can come in and make an immediate mid-season impact.

Tottenham like Maia
Brazilian outlet claim the any buyer would have to pay just £9 million in order to sign Maia despite there being an alleged £43m release clause.
“We have many queries,” Maia’s agent Junior Pedroso told last month.
“He has caught the attention of the international market. But we are waiting to see if any club will formalise an offer.
“Anyway, he is maturing. And it won’t be bad to stay another six months in Sao Paulo.
“The release clause is high, but it doesn’t match reality. In the European winter window, it is difficult for a club to have a budget for a young player who still needs to adapt.”
That indicates that a summer move may be more likely for either Spurs or West Ham but either club could afford £9 million and their fans would dearly love to win a transfer tussle with their bitter rivals.
