Report: Tottenham and Wolves eye 6.5m-rated teen, Chelsea already in talks

that Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur are in the race to sign VFL Bochum teenager Armel Bella-Kotchap, but face enormous competition from some of Europe’s best clubs.

France-born Germany Under-18 international Bella-Kotchap, 18, has sprung onto the shortlists of Europe’s best after clocking up 14 senior appearances for Bochum. This season, the centre-back has played 10 times for the second-tier German side.

The report claims Chelsea are leading the race for the defender, having opened talks with Bella-Kotchap’s club and representatives. But Frank Lampard’s side are not alone in their pursuit of the defender.

Indeed, Wolves, Tottenham, Sheffield United, Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all keeping tabs on Bella-Kotchap who continues to impress despite his tender age. A fee of £6.5million is enough, and Bochum are ‘willing to listen to offers’.

TBR’s view -Which club would be best for Bella-Kotchap?

Real Madrid and Barcelona hardly every bring through younger players. Fede Valverde has been a rare example this season, but Bella-Kotchap would have little chance of breaking into either of the La Liga giants’ side.

A move to the Premier League would be his best move, but which club? Pep Guardiola is reluctant to bring younger players through, with Phil Foden arguably his only example. Wolves would also rather buy, than promote.

But Spurs and Manchester United have shown this season that they will bring through youth. Either Jose Mourinho’s current side, or previous side, would be best for Bella-Kotchap.
