According to , Tottenham and Aston Villa are leading the race to sign Sampdoria wonderkid Mikkel Damsgaard.

What’s the story?

Well, supporters should know all about the 21-year-old after he scored a stunning freekick against England in the EURO 2020 semi-final.

It was one of goals scored by the Dane at EURO 2020, the other a stupendous curling effort against Russia.

add that Sampdoria want a fee in the region of €30m – €35m (£25.5m – £29.8m) for the Denmark international.

Damsgaard only scored goals in appearances for Sampdoria last season, but his efforts at EURO 2020 suggest his star is rising.

Interestingly, the Danish prodigy has been likened to Manchester City maestro Kevin De Bruyne – arguably Europe’s best midfielder.

Jan Laursen, Sporting Director of Damsgaard’s former side Nordsjælland said the following to .

“He (De Bruyne) was also small and skinny and he developed in a club where they saw his potential. They both are not the strongest and fastest, but they are very clever players.”

If he even develops into half the player De Bruyne is, Tottenham and Aston Villa should push the boat out to sign him.

Damsgaard is a very silky, creative attacking midfielder, who thrives in the half spaces between the opponent’s defence and midfield.

He has superstar potential, and would be a fantastic addition to the Premier League.

Hopefully, we will see Damsgaard on these shores before the transfer window ends – Dean Smith and Nuno Espirito Santo, get your chequebooks out.
