Report: Tottenham and Arsenal interested in defender Ben Godfrey

Tottenham are joined by North London rivals Arsenal in their reported interest for Norwich City’s colossus defender Ben Godfrey.

, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is already plotting his move for the 22-year-old Englishman in the summer transfer window.

It is understood that he’s been monitored by Spurs, but there is also interest from Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Lyon too.

The report explains that the centre-back is valued at around £50million and Mourinho could get a summer transfer kitty to improve his backline, which is why his Norwich teammate Max Aarons is also being eyed in a potential £30million swoop.

Godfrey has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the Premier League in recent years and this is his first season in the top-flight.

He’s a ball-playing defender that is a regular for a Norwich side rooted to the bottom of the table at the moment, but he’s someone that has caught the eye and has immense potential.

TBR’s View:

Spurs certainly appears to be in the driving seat in terms of the chase for Godfrey ahead of other suitors and there is no doubt they could do with some fresh blood at the back.

The Norwich enforcer is someone that is calm in possession and looks like he could play at a higher level, as well as being decent in the air too.

But it would be a big jump in his career if he were to move for next season and whether he would be ready remains to be seen.

A £30million swoop for Aarons also seems a punt worth taking, but a staggering £50million for centre-back Godfrey would be an enormous risk that could backfire.
