Report: Title winners want to sign Spurs player who’s ‘technically so sound’, likely to leave – not Kane
Dutch title winners Ajax are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham player Steven Bergwijn.
, the 23-year-old is “likely” to leave Spurs this summer.
It is understood that Ajax want to sign the Dutch attacker, who joined Spurs from PSV Eindhoven for £27million in January 2020. In addition, Bundesliga clubs are keen on his signature.
The report states that the north London club plan to give him the start of pre-season, but they want the £27million transfer fee back from any potential sale.
Bergwijn is an exciting left-winger with great pace, directness and confidence on the ball. However, he slightly underwhelmed over the course of last season.
He finished the campaign with one goal and seven assists in 35 games across all competitions.
Spurs teammate Eric Dier did praise him last season though for his ability:
“Steven Bergwijn is a player I enjoy to watch in training and in games. He has that Dutch-style about him. He’s so good in possession, keeps the ball so well, technically so sound,” Dier last November.

Bergwijn exit from Tottenham would be premature
Bergwijn hasn’t set the world alight during his opening 18 months with Spurs. However, that needs to be taken into context.
The speedster has definitely shown in glimpses his talent. He just needs consistency and an extended run of starts to kick on.
It would be no surprise to see him tear it up if he does return to his homeland, as it his age there is still so much more room to improve.
In conclusion, Spurs should let their new manager take a look at him before any transfer.
