Report: Title-winners Besiktas set to battle Rangers in pursuit of free agent Salih Ozcan this summer
Reports emerged earlier this week that Rangers are looking to bring Koln midfielder Salih Ozcan to Ibrox. His contract expires at the end of June and it appears that deal will not be extended. However, Rangers will now face pretty hefty competition in the form of SuperLig winners Besiktas.
Ozcan, 23, impressed for Koln in the German Bundesliga during the 2020-21 campaign playing in 28 of Koln’s 34 league outings. It comes after he went on loan to second-tier outfit Holstein Kiel and had a hand in 12 goals last season. Now, the central midfielder has another decision to make.
this week that Rangers want him, with his contract about to expire. He will become a free agent and Steven Gerrard wants to bring the German-born ace to Ibrox. However, a new report suggests Rangers have massive competition from Besiktas.
who won the SuperLig title ahead of Galatasaray by a single goal on goal difference are keen on Ozcan. It is claimed that the 13-time Germany Under-21 is a long-term target, and is in contention to replace Atiba Hutchinson.

Ozcan would be a stunning signing for Rangers especially if they can beat Besiktas
Rangers need a central midfielder. Steven Davis and Ryan Jack are currently Gerrard’s in the achoring midfield role. Joe Aribo, Scott Arfield, Glen Kamara and Bongani Zungu are his picks as box-to-box midfielders. But Zungu will leave, and both Davis and Arfield are getting on.
Younger options in the middle of the park need to be targeted players that get forward and are creative in the final third. Ozcan is ideal, especially on a free transfer. He would turn out to be a brilliant addition at Rangers, if the Gers can beat Besiktas to his signature.
