Report: Three Manchester United players now on Newcastle radar, including two England internationals

that Newcastle have added three Manchester United players to their January shortlist – Jesse Lingard, Phil Jones and Nemanja Matic.

The Toon’s new owners are backed by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund – making them the wealthiest owners of a football club in the world.

Big-name players from all over Europe have been linked with a move, from Mauro Icardi to Alfredo Morelos, Wesley Fofana to Kalidou Koulibaly.

But three players could be on their way from Old Trafford to Newcastle – in the form of England internationals Lingard and Jones, as well as Matic.

All three players are said to have been offered to Newcastle in the previous window. Now, the new owners could take advantage of that in January.

Lingard, as well-documented, is out of contract in the summer. But for both Jones and Matic, they do not see their deals expire until June 2023.

Lingard, Matic and Jones: Which player do Newcastle need most?

Matic is not a player that should be playing for a side in the midst of a relegation fight. The Serb is a tempo player, for a possession-based side.

He is on big wages, but is already well into his thirties. Matic is one Newcastle should avoid – but as for the other two, they improve the Toon.

Yes, Jones has been without game time for a while now – but the England ace is a fighter, willing to throw his body on the line. Newcastle need that.

Down the bottom, they will need to grind out results. Jones can help them do that. In attack, they need to take some pressure off Allan Saint-Maximin.

Lingard would solve the lack of options on the right, or replace Miguel Almiron as a 10. He provides goals, assists, flair and downright magic.
