Report: The reason Rafa Benitez privately thinks Everton players aren’t performing at Goodison Park
Everton finally sacked Rafa Benitez and have shed some light on the Spaniard’s state of mind after losing his job at Goodison Park.
When the Toffees decided to appoint Benitez, a successful Liverpool manager back in the day, as their new boss last summer, there were more moans and groans than excitement around the blue half of Merseyside.
Not everyone was convinced about the appointment, but Benitez quietened the criticism by losing just once in Everton’s first seven league games. However, just as fans were beginning to buy into him, things took a turn for the worse.
Everton managed just one win in their next 12 league games and Benitez was shown the door.
Why Rafa Benitez thinks Everton players underperformed at Goodison Park
The report claims that Benitez was saddened and surprised by Everton’s decision to sack him after backing him with new signings and selling Lucas Digne to Aston Villa.
The Spaniard reportedly feels that Everton are a ‘dysfunctional’ club and their owner, Farhad Moshiri, ‘takes too much heed of agent talk, both in terms of recruitment and tactics, and there are too many moving parts amongst the hierarchy’.
The report further goes on to say that Benitez privately feels that some Everton stars don’t perform at Goodison Park because of the expectations of the home crowd, which causes them to buckle under the pressure.
He feels that is the reason why Everton are where they are and that’s why he lost his job.

Irrespective of what Benitez feels about the ownership, fans and the players he had at his disposal, a manager is judged by the results at the end of the day, and it simply hasn’t been good enough.
Everton, really, were left with no choice but to show Benitez the door, but it is surprising that they backed his decision to sell Digne, one of their best players, just a few days before sacking him.
The Toffees really are in a mess now. They simply have to get their next appointment right. If they don’t, they could easily find themselves in a relegation battle, even though the quality of players they have at the club is much higher than some of the other sides fighting to stay in the division.
