Report: Sunderland want Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths; deal could hinge on Postecoglou

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths is a target for Sunderland this summer as the Black Cats look to replace Charlie Wyke, according to the .

Griffiths has endured a miserable 12 months or so in Scotland and has dipped down the pecking order with the Bhoys somewhat. Off the field issues have also not helped his cause.

However, he could be offered a lifeline by Sunderland. The claims Lee Johnson is keen on Griffiths. His goalscoring record – 123 goals in 262 Celtic games – is appealing for the Black Cats.

Any decision on Griffiths’ future could, however, come down to new Bhoys boss Ange Postecoglou. The report claims that the new Celtic coach hasn’t yet spoken to the striker.

Griffiths has enjoyed huge success with Celtic over the years. He’s won seven league titles and a plethora of cups.

He was last seen in England with Wolves. A move back to the EFL, then, won’t be completely alien to the Scottish striker.

Big move from Sunderland

If you want someone to get you out of League One, then there won’t be many better than Griffiths for Sunderland. It’s a bold and brave call this to go after the Celtic man.

Hopefully for him, his off field issues are now behind him. Let’s not forget that on his day, he is one of the best strikers in Scotland.

Sunderland could do far worse here. If they can get a deal over the line and Johnson can get him ticking nicely, then it could be a major coup.
