It is noted that Everton want to try and land Doucoure for a lower fee. And they may perhaps be helped, with Sky Sports reporting that the midfielder is keen to leave Vicarage Road.

TBR View: Everton should look elsewhere if Watford stick to £35 million asking price

Spending £25 million on Doucoure arguably had the potential to be an inspired deal for the Toffees. Despite Watford’s relegation, he has been excellent in the Premier League.

But Everton should perhaps back away should Watford dig their heels in. The additional £10 million makes a potential move look a greater gamble.

He is an excellent player, and may prove to be a fantastic addition to Carlo Ancelotti’s ranks. But Watford’s reported asking price should perhaps set the alarm bells ringing.
