Report suggests Leeds’s Ryan Edmondson will sign new three-year contract

Leeds United striker Ryan Edmondson is closing in on signing a new contract at Elland Road, according to Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes – – that he is likely to pen a three-year extension.

Edmondson made his first senior appearance since September 2018 at the weekend as he came on in Aberdeen’s defeat to Rangers on the opening day of the Scottish Premiership season.

The 19-year-old is on loan with the Dons until January. And his cameo received plenty of praise from the Aberdeen fans on social media despite the defeat.

And McInnes has suggested that Edmondson is in line to commit his future to Leeds in the coming weeks.

“Ryan does score goals at his own level,” he said, .

“He is highly thought of at Leeds and will be signing a new contract there in the next few weeks.”

In addition to McInnes’s comments, that a three-year extension has been mooted.

The report notes that his current deal is set to expire next summer. So it may not come as a big surprise to many that he appears to be in line for a new contract.

TBR View: Three-year deal looks a big statement

It has perplexed Leeds fans at times that Edmondson has not received many chances under Marcelo Bielsa. He did not play at all during the promotion-winning campaign.

Injury was a factor. But it seemed telling that he was not involved following Eddie Nketiah’s return to Arsenal.

However, a three-year deal looks to be a big statement from the Whites. It suggests that Bielsa still has high hopes for the teenager even if he is not in his plans right now.
