Report suggests Everton are set for £20m hit on Morgan Schneiderlin

The reported deal that will see Morgan Schneiderlin leave Everton for French side Nice is said to be worth a paltry €2 million (£1.8m), indicating a massive transfer failure by the Toffees.

that the French side have agreed a deal to sign the 15-cap French international for the £1.8 million fee, although there will be bonuses on top of that initial fee.

The Frenchman will reportedly arrive at the Ligue 1 club for a medical on Monday and the deal looks set to be going ahead for the 30-year-old – who has just one year left on his current Everton contract.

Still, it represents an incredibly disappointing piece of business from Everton’s perspective.

The Toffees signed the midfielder from Manchester United in a deal worth an apparent £22 million,, back in January 2017.

It saw the midfielder reunite with his former Southampton manager Ronald Koeman, for the deal despite reservations from then director of football Steve Walsh.

after the deal was concluded, Koeman waxed lyrical about the player and suggested he was part of Everton’s future.

“He’s a strong character. I worked with him for one season at Southampton and he’s a midfield player who can play in different positions in the midfield. He’s also a fast player, he’s a clever player and he’s a personality. Normally, he’s part of the French national team and at 27 years old he’s part of the future at Everton.

“Morgan is really hungry to show his qualities and to play because that is the best thing for a football player. You are born as a football player to play games, not to sit on the bench or not be part of the team. But this is a new step, it’s a new future and he will show his qualities. I am convinced of that.”

However, Koeman was gone before the end of the year and Schneiderlin continuously found himself the target of Everton supporter ire.

It has clearly been a disappointing stint for Schneiderlin and hopefully a move to Nice will help him turn things around.

As for Everton, their £22 million investment is leaving for a fraction of what they paid for him with little to show for it.
