Report suggests Ethan Ampadu would have been a one-off, Aston Villa should be pleased he’s heading elsewhere

Aston Villa’s hopes of signing Ethan Ampadu appear to be over, with the Welshman on his way to RB Leipzig for a season on loan.

, Aston Villa were keeping tabs on Ampadu’s situation as they considered a loan swoop for the player. Assistant manager John Terry was hopeful of raiding his former club for the player if he did become available during the summer.

Last week, Frank Lampard confirmed that Ampadu would be sent out on loan by Chelsea to further his development. Cue the renewed interest from Aston Villa.

However, a switch to Germany is now the most likely avenue for the Welsh international.

So how much would he have set Aston Villa back?

the Bundesliga side have paid Chelsea a fee of €650,000 (£583,000) to have the player for the season. That is certainly not a sizeable fee considering the amounts Aston Villa have splashed out in this summer’s transfer window.

However, also makes it clear that Chelsea have absolutely no intention of allowing this to become a permanent move. There is no purchase option in any deal and Chelsea will not entertain any exit next summer.

So Aston Villa are probably right not to make this loan addition. They would effectively be helping develop a player for a Premier League rival.

Aston Villa fans should be pleased that Ampadu is on his way to Germany.
