Despite this, Bruce is keen on competing for his signature and you can understand why. The French forward has scored 10 Ligue 1 goals in just 18 appearances and is earning rave reviews all around Europe.

Newcastle can offer the Lyon star regular first-team opportunities, which is something Chelsea and other suitors cannot promise. Whether or not the 23-year-old would be keen on moving to a club that does not have Champions League football remains to be seen.

If he were to make a move to St James’ Park, it would go a long way to solving the club’s goalscoring woes. Dembele possesses speed, strength, clever movement and a deadly finish. There is also potential to develop a very exciting trio with Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin, who are beginning to find their feet at the club.

Mike Ashley will find it difficult not to put his hands in his pockets if a move for Dembele is possible. He is a promising young striker who will only get better in the coming years. If Newcastle add goals to their side, they could be looking at a top-half finish this season.
