Report: Spurs-linked 6ft 2in ace could see £43.5m slashed off his price this summer

Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Geoffrey Kondogbia could be sold for a cut-price fee if Valencia do not qualify for next season’s Champions League, according to the .

Tottenham are believed to be long-term admirers of the 27-year-old defensive midfielder and that Tottenham are looking at him as a potential summer signing.

Spurs chief scout Steve Hitchen is of Kondogbia, having viewed the 6ft 2in ace as a possible replacement for Mousa Dembele two years ago.

A previous report by claims that the Central African Republic international has an €80million (around £70million) release clause but were willing to negotiate.

The cited other another report from Spain suggesting he could cost €40million (around £35million) before suggesting his price tag could be cheaper still.

The London outlet believes that Kondogbia could leave for around €30million (around £26.5million), especially if Valencia – seventh in La Liga – fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

TBR View:

Kondogbia is a high-calibre player, a strong, ball-playing defensive midfielder with great ability to bring the ball forward, which is of course paired with his protective duties in the holding role.

At 27, he’d be very much in the prime of his career and would be a worthy investment for Tottenham, who could be looking to replace Victor Wanyama after his March departure from N17.

And if £26.5million could indeed become his price tag – £43.5million cheaper than his release clause – then that’s bargain territory for such a great player, and Spurs should be monitoring proceedings closely.
