Report: Spurs keen on signing £18m table-topper deemed one of Europe’s best in his position

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, according to .

Cakir, widely regarded as one of the best players in Turkey, plies his trade for Trabzonspor, his efforts this season helping the team to the top of the Superlig table on goal difference.

Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu recently described Cakir as one of the top three .

Leicester City scout Lee Congerton, meanwhile, previously told the that the player was “one of the best goalkeepers I have seen in my life.”

Speaking with VOLE’s YouTube channel, Ece said: “The most serious offer came from Sevilla, which is €20m (£18million). I don’t know what Trabzonspor’s board think about the sale of him. But I also heard and confirmed that Leicester City and Tottenham are interested in signing him.

“However, Leicester have Kasper Schmeichel. Tottenham are in the market for a goalkeeper, too, as they want to sign a promising goalkeeper to compete with Hugo Lloris. Apart from these clubs, Ajax are also looking to sign him, if Andre Onana leaves the club.”

TBR View:

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has some serious thinking to do in terms of bolstering his ranks, given there are weak points throughout the squad and there could be further departures over the summer.

Hugo Lloris is first choice for Spurs but his form has been shaky in recent months and his injury prompted Spurs to bring back Michel Vorm on a free transfer, while Paulo Gazzaniga’s performances came under some scrutiny too.

Cakir has done superbly this season in getting unfancied Trabzonspor to the top of the Superlig table, a league normally dominated by Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas, and given Spurs seem in need of bolstering their ranks in between the sticks, he’s surely worth a look.
