Report: Spurs eyeing ‘absolutely sensational’ defender who made 14 clearances against Red Devils

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly expressed an interest in Fulham on-loan defender Joachim Andersen.

According to , Spurs are one of three teams keeping tabs on the Denmark international, who’s on the books at Lyon.

Along with Tottenham, the likes of Manchester United and Leicester City are also said to be keeping tabs on Andersen.

Spurs have had an inconsistent season, with outstanding displays offset by some poor performances, and the back line has been particularly shaky for much of the campaign.

Jose Mourinho criticised his defence following their 2-2 draw with Newcastle last time out, saying “we created some instability with so many individual defensive mistakes that we made”.

Andersen has been superb for Fulham this season, so much so that he’s been handed the captain’s armband on multiple occasions.

Cottagers legend Tony Gale has him as “absolutely sensational” and suggested he’s the best defender at the club since Brede Hangeland.

And one look at his stats – on – shows exactly what makes him so good.

Over the course of the season, Andersen has one tackle, 1.4 interceptions, and 5 clearances per Premier League game.

On the passing front, the 24-year-old has averaged 61.6 passes per game at 80.6 percent accuracy, as well as 5.6 long balls per game.

Andersen has also done exceedingly well against some of the league’s top sides – two tackles, four interceptions and six clearances in the victory over Liverpool, for example.

Against Manchester United, he made a staggering 14 clearances, and against Chelsea, he made nine.

At a reported price tag of £25million, Spurs would be getting themselves a superb player proven at Premier League level and with plenty of years ahead of him for a modest price.
