Report: Spurs boost as Nottingham Forest want Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Tottenham Hotspur have received a potential boost in their pursuit of Djed Spence, that Nottingham Forest want Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles as a potential replacement for their former loanee.

Spence’s future remains a key talking point in this window. The wing-back has several clubs chasing his signature after an outstanding year at the City Ground.

You would imagine that Steve Cooper would love to sign Spence once again. But it seems that Tottenham are the side leading the charge for the 21-year-old’s signature.

In fact, reports this week suggested that Spence is likely to become Tottenham’s fourth signing. And it seems that Forest may be preparing themselves for the youngster to head elsewhere.

Maitland-Niles appears to need a move away from Arsenal this summer. The academy graduate is now 24 years of age. And it seems unlikely that Mikel Arteta will give him a chance to become a first-team regular at the Emirates.

His loan spell at Roma last season failed to really get going. And the Giallorossi probably felt that they had little to ponder when it came to whether to keep him beyond his loan.

He does have potential. Martin Keown previously labelled him ‘‘. And reports suggested that Arsenal would sell him for £8 million. So he could prove to be a very shrewd signing for Forest.

Tottenham will welcome Forest pursuing a move for Maitland-Niles. Having a contender for Spence’s signature exit the race will probably help Spurs reach an agreement with Middlesbrough about his asking price.
