Report: Southgate urged to pick West Ham loanee Craig Dawson

that Gareth Southgate has been encouraged to consider taking Craig Dawson to the European Championships this summer following his superb form for West Ham United.

Dawson has enjoyed a remarkable season at the London Stadium. It is almost incredible to think that the 30-year-old did not make his Hammers debut until after Christmas.

But he has since made himself undroppable for David Moyes’s men. He has been colossal defensively, and he has contributed four goals in all competitions.

It looks inevitable that the Irons will make his move permanent. And perhaps, there is a chance that he could see his season extended into the summer.

, a well-placed figure has recommended Dawson to Southgate for his Euro 2020 squad. It is noted however, that he is unlikely to be called up by the England boss for this coming break.

It is surely fair to say that there are few English defenders in better form than Dawson right now.

His ability to play at right-back could perhaps also make him an appealing option for a tournament squad. Admittedly, that is the one area of the field where the Three Lions probably boast the most depth.

The problem Dawson may have is the fact that he is yet to receive a call-up. Southgate will surely want to limit the number of new faces he picks for this summer.

But if he continues to perform at his current level, he must have a chance of an inclusion. If not, he can surely set his sights on the World Cup that is very slowly emerging on the horizon.
