Report: Southampton set to sign Chelsea player – but Arsenal, Liverpool, Benitez and others were all keen

that Southampton are ‘nearing’ a move to sign Chelsea teenager Tino Livramento this summer. The versatile winger was a regular in Chelsea’s Under-23 side last term. The Saints are set to get Livramento, despite Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton and others all showing interest.

While the England Under-20 international is yet to make his senior debut – having not gone on loan – he starred for Chelsea’s reserves in 2020-21. Playing left wing, right wing or right-back, Livramento had a hand in eight goals during 20 Premier League 2 appearances.

It saw him appear on the Chelsea bench twice in the Premier League under Thomas Tuchel. But he is now set to leave and the 18-year-old has picked Southampton. The Athletic claim the Saints are close to completing a deal, with a five-year contract on the table. But plenty were keen on the teen.

The report claims Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Everton, Aston Villa, Brighton, Monaco and RB Leipzig were all looking at Livramento. But Southampton spent three days convincing the player over a move.

Southampton best place for Livramento – despite Arsenal, Liverpool interest?

A move to Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester City would have just seen Livramento go sideways. He would not have improved his chances of first-team football – with the depths of the named clubs huge. Similarly at Chelsea, Livramento clearly felt he needed to move.

Everton have already signed Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray as options out wide. So, Villa, Brighton or Southampton were the best options – if he chose to stay in England. Villa themselves have signed Emi Buendia. Moving to Southampton is probably the best option on offer.
