Report: Southampton open contract talks with Alex McCarthy
Southampton have opened talks with Alex McCarthy over a new contract, that reaching an agreement is expected to be a reasonably simple task.
The 31-year-old has started 23 of the Saints’ 24 Premier League games so far this season. And but for one result, the Saints would be in the top-half of the table for fewest goals conceded.

McCarthy has kept seven clean sheets in the top flight for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men.
that his contract at St Mary’s expires at the end of next season. But it appears that the Saints have decided that they want to extend his stay.

The report claims that early talks over a new deal have begun. And it is claimed that getting McCarthy to sign fresh terms is expected to be a smooth process.
McCarthy has been an excellent servant for the Saints. He has made over 100 appearances for the club in all competitions, and he has done well considering that he was initially signed as cover for Fraser Forster.
Southampton may perhaps want to consider who is going to be their long-term number one between the sticks – whether that be Angus Gunn or a new signing.
But McCarthy – who earns £50,000-a-week, – continues to do a good job at the highest level. So extending his contract would certainly be smart piece of business.
