Report: Southampton land boost in bid to sign Hasenhuttl target who’s ‘as brave as a lion’
Manchester United will allow Brandon Williams to go out on loan amid interest from Southampton, per the .
The Red Devils have decided to sanction a temporary move for the 20-year-old after he only started five games last season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also blocked him from leaving on loan in January to provide cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
But Manchester United have warmed to Williams leaving this summer so that he can secure more regular first-team action than would be possible at Old Trafford. They also plan on welcoming Diogo Dalot back from his loan spell at AC Milan and are assessing a move to sign Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier.
Milan hold an option to buy Dalot but have enquired over a second loan spell to delay payment to 2022. However, Manchester United would prefer to keep hold of the Portuguese talent if they fail to sign Trippier.
Either heading to Old Trafford this summer would jeopardise Williams’ chances of playing a prominent role next term. Southampton and Newcastle had asked to sign the England U21 international on loan last season.
Williams now has interest from Premier League and Championship clubs keen to secure loan deals. Southampton are one, as claim Ralph Hasenhuttl has identified him as an option to improve his choices at full-back.
Hasenhuttl wants two left-backs and a right-back alongside Stade Brest star Romain Perraud with Ryan Bertrand leaving. Williams can play on either side of the defence, but is also wanted by Norwich ahead of their top-flight return.
