Report: Southampton fail with offer for Andre Silva

Southampton have reportedly tried and failed to sign AC Milan striker Andre Silva on loan.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (), the Saints attempted to take the striker on a temporary basis with an option to buy for around €18 million/£16 million.

The Rossoneri value the forward closer to €25 million/£22.4 million, having forked out €38 million/£34 million to sign him in 2017 from FC Porto ().

It is thought that Milan’s new manager Marco Giampaolo would rather keep Silva to give him a second chance at making his move work out.

The 23-year-old arrived at San Siro to a lot of fanfare, but has only managed to make 40 appearances so far, scoring 10 goals for the club.

Last term he was loaned out to Spanish side Sevilla, who have decided not to take up the option to sign him permanently.

TBR’s view

Silva hasn’t quite lived up to his billing following his big-money move to Milan a couple of years ago, but he remains a talented forward with huge potential.

The star would be a good loan signing for Southampton, although it does appear Giampaolo is a fan of the Portugal international.

With his form having dipped in recent times, meaning any permanent transfer would be a big gamble.

Having just signed Che Adams, Silva pitching up at St. Mary’s Stadium could make Southampton a real threat in front of goal again in the Premier League.
