Report: Southampton eye £15m Adam Armstrong bid
Southampton are preparing a £15 million bid for Adam Armstrong, , with the Saints looking to see off competition from Newcastle United and West Ham for the striker.
Armstrong goes into this summer off the back of an outstanding campaign with Blackburn Rovers.
He scored 28 goals in 40 appearances for Tony Mowbray’s men. So it is little surprise that he is now attracting plenty of attention from the level above.
that the Saints, Magpies and Hammers all want the 24-year-old. But it is Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side who have apparently stolen a march on their rivals.
According to the report, Southampton are planning a £15 million bid. It is also claimed that they have opened talks with his representatives.
The Daily Express claims that Blackburn would accept £16 million. But the situation is also potentially complicated by Newcastle having a 40 percent sell-on clause.
Southampton cannot afford to miss out on Armstrong amid Ings concerns
It proved to be a disappointing campaign for Hasenhuttl’s side this past year.
After topping the table at one stage, they gradually slid down the league to finish the year in the bottom-half of the Premier League.
A lack of goals was certainly a problem. Danny Ings ended the year as their top goalscorer with 12 strikes to his name.
He was also the only player to reach double figures for the Saints.
There are currently doubts over Ings’s future on the south coast. His current contract expires in 12 months.
So it seems imperative that Hasenhuttl signs at least one new striker. And given Armstrong’s asking price, a move for the Englishman would potentially make a lot of sense.
The good news for the Saints is that it appears that there is not too much of a gulf between the two clubs’ valuations – judging by this latest report.
