Report: Southampton could use Michael Obafemi in swap for Adam Armstrong; selling club want him

Southampton may receive a boost in their pursuit of £25 million-rated striker Adam Armstrong, that Blackburn are keen on Michael Obafemi.

The Saints are trying to put together a deal that will see Armstrong move to St Mary’s. The 24-year-old scored 28 goals in the Championship last year.

Talks have reportedly been going on for some time.

However, the respective valuations highlight the problem. Southampton are prepared to open with an offer of £8 million. Rovers meanwhile, value Armstrong at more than three times that figure.

But the Saints may have a trump card. , Blackburn are interested in signing Obafemi.

And it is claimed that including the Republic of Ireland international in a potential bid could possibly help Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men.

Southampton should not hesitate if Obafemi could help land Armstrong

Obafemi unfortunately, has not had the easiest time in the Saints first-team. On his day, he is an incredibly exciting prospect with blistering pace.

However, he has already had to deal with a couple of injuries. He played just four times in the Premier League last season.

So if Obafemi can help break the deadlock for Armstrong, Southampton simply have to use him.

Armstrong has done all he can in the second tier to prove that he deserves a fresh chance at the highest level.

Obafemi meanwhile, needs to go out and play regularly at this stage of his career. Obviously, that may be more likely with Tony Mowbray’s men.

That may not end the impasse altogether. The clubs will still have their own feelings over Obafemi’s valuation.

But it may be a reason for encouragement with Southampton unwilling to pay £25 million for Armstrong.
