Report: Southampton battling Frank Lampard’s Derby for Lincoln City midfielder Ellis Chapman

Lincoln City midfielder Ellis Chapman is being pursued by three clubs higher in the Football League pyramid. , Southampton, Derby County and Wigan Athletic are all keen on Chapman.

Southampton could offer the 18-year-old Premier League football, while Derby’s hopes of going up hinge on tonight’s play-off semi-final with Leeds United.

Wigan’s place in the Championship is confirmed next season and they want to poach Chapman. Lincoln do not want to sell their teenage talent but Danny Cowley accepts that every player has his price.

Chapman’s contract expires at the end of next season. In order to avoid losing him on the cheap, Lincoln might be forced to cash in this summer.

The Lincoln-born midfielder played 12 games for the Imps, including five games in their League Two title-winning campaign. He registered two assists, both in the EFL Cup.

But Lincoln allowed him to leave on loan in February. He dropped down one division and joined Chesterfield, playing 14 games and helping keep his loan club in the National League.

Chapman is considered a midfield playmaker and he is highly-rated. Southampton, Derby and Wigan clearly share that thought as they plot summer swoops.

Meanwhile, Lincoln face another battle ahead of this summer. Bruno Andrade is reportedly () on the radar of Aston Villa and Portsmouth. His contract also expires in summer 2020.
