Report: Southampton and Leicester battling AC Milan for Mattias Svanberg

that both Southampton and Leicester City are rivalling AC Milan for midfielder Matias Svanberg – with the Italian league leaders having opened talks for the Swedish star.

Svanberg, 22, has been in excellent form for Italian side Bologna after breaking into the team following his move from Swedish side Malmo in the summer of 2018. He has been first choice this season, playing 16 times.

Now already a four-time Sweden international, Milan want him to join fellow countryman Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the San Siro. But Premier League clubs are keen too, according to Di Marzio, with Southampton and Leicester keen.

A move to Milan looks the most likely, though, given the presence of Ibrahimovic and the fact that talks between Milan and Bologna are underway. Such a move would see Svanberg remain in Italy, too.

TBR’s view – Svanberg an exciting prospect in the Premier League

He is the exact type of player that Premier League scouts will be looking at. Already, Svanberg has more than 100 professional senior appearances for Bologna and Malmo, and is an international with Sweden.

At aged 22, his resale value and potential is enormous. For an ambitious club like Southampton or Leicester, Svanberg is absolutely ideal. But at Milan, their faith in youth is extraordinary, taking them to the top of Serie A.
