According to , there is a theory at Tottenham that Harry Kane’s tendency to drop deep has now gone too far.

What’s the story?

Well, the snippet of information comes after Kane scored in the Carabao Cup win over Wolves, acting as more of an out-and-out No.9.

The 28-year-old was leading the line at Molineux, winning flick ons and making life difficult for Wolves defenders at the back.

add that Kane wanted a bigger role in the Spurs team after watching The Last Dance on Netflix, and became ‘entranced’ by Michael Jordan’s completeness.

Afterwards, Tottenham’s No.10 envisaged becoming involved in every aspect of his side’s game.

In our view, it sounds like Kane has genuinely developed Main Character Syndrome, in which he must always be the centre of attention.

Harry Kane dropping deep helps nobody at Tottenham

If Kane was leading the line with a partner in a 4-4-2 or similar, then he should feel free to drop deep.

However, he is a lone centre-forward under Nuno Espirito Santo, so he cannot go wandering around on his own accord.

Nuno’s football is counter attacking.

When Tottenham’s defenders or midfielders win the ball, they’ll presumably look to see where Kane is and plan to play off of him.

That simply can’t happen if Kane himself is closer to his own backline than he is to the opposition defence.

Of course, Heung-min Son is still capable of causing damage, but he’s far more effective when Kane is up top alongside him.

Hopefully, we’ll see the England international become more of an out-and-out No.9 from this point on – dropping deep is benefitting nobody.
