Report: Some at Everton surprised by Dele Alli in training since move

Some around the Everton training ground were surprised by how low the starting level was for Dele Alli following his arrival at the end of the January transfer window, .

Dele joined Everton following a tough few years with Tottenham. It seemed to be a sad move for a player who looked to have the potential to be one of the world’s best when his Spurs career began.

However, it also looked to be an incredibly smart piece of business from the Toffees. Everton will pay £10 million once Dele has made 20 appearances for the club. Meanwhile, that the fee could rise to around £30 million based on various clauses.

Unfortunately, the move has not yet reignited Dele’s career. Of course, Frank Lampard’s men are in serious trouble in the Premier League. And the 25-year-old has only managed to make six substitute appearances in the top-flight.

Obviously, it was always likely that Dele would take a little while to get going. But it does seem that some around Finch Farm hoped that he may adapt slightly quicker.

that Lampard sees Dele as a long-term project at Everton. However, some at the club were still left surprised by how far off the pace he was when he arrived.

It is suggested that his fitness was a particular concern.

Lampard remains hopeful that Dele can turn his career around while on Merseyside. And it would certainly be brilliant to see the attacking midfielder back to something like his best.

One goal could make all the difference for Dele and Everton

The disappointing aspect surrounding Dele’s form is that everyone knows how good he can be. He was lauded for a ‘‘ display earlier this season. And he is now at an age where he should be approaching the peak of his career.

It is going to take something miraculous for the Englishman to get back to his very best. But he could still go on and enjoy a brilliant career.

In fact, given Everton’s current position, it may only take one goal at a crucial time to turn things around. Dele would immediately be a hero if he could play a part in keeping the side up. And that would do his confidence wonders.
