Report: Shaun Maloney set to sign Arsenal defender, just returned from loan
Hibernian have ‘swooped’ to sign Arsenal defender Harry Clarke. The youngster has been shining on loan at Scottish side Ross County – and new Hibs boss Shaun Maloney has made his move.
Clarke, 20, has been in sensational form since joining County in the summer on a half-season loan. He has clocked up 17 appearances for his side, having a hand in five goals either playing as a right-back, or in the middle of the defence.
That includes a goal in a 4-2 defeat to Rangers at Dingwall. His form has not gone unnoticed and while he might have returned on loan to Ross County, Maloney and Hibs made their move on Sunday night to secure the defender.
Given that Clarke has returned to Arsenal this month, Ross County will not be able to extend that loan as fifth-placed Hibs look set to sign the defender. It is solid-looking first move by Maloney, after his arrival at Easter Road.

Clarke to Hibernian: Arsenal defender shining in Scotland
But the chances of Clarke showing Mikel Arteta he deserves a run at Arsenal is incredibly unlikely. Yes, Clarke is probably performing better than expected in Scotland – but he is doing at a level far below Arsenal.
Clarke is playing for his future. He is playing for the likes of Hibernian, Scottish Premiership rivals or English Championship sides to take a look. There will be plenty of suitors, if he can continue his Ross County form at Hibs.
