Report shares why three West Ham stars were ‘scolded like little children’ by the fourth official
According to , three West Ham United substitutes were told off by the fourth official during the Irons’ game against Rapid Wien yesterday.
David Moyes’ men travelled to Vienna to maintain their unbeaten record in the Europa League.
Goals from Andriy Yarmolenko and Mark Noble secured the top spot for the Hammers and they are now a team to keep an eye on in the competition.
Moyes, predictably, was delighted with his side’s performance last night. However, he wouldn’t have been too pleased with the fourth official having a go at three of his substitutes during the first half.
Three West Ham players were ‘scolded’ by the fourth official
Midway through the first half, Moyes sent Declan Rice, Ryan Fredericks and Pablo Fornals to warm up.
As amazing a place as Vienna is, it’s awfully cold out there this time of the year, especially in the evenings. West Ham’s three star substitutes felt that sitting on the bench and decided to do some extra work during their warm-ups.
After a few jogs and stretches, Rice, Fornals and Fredericks spotted a ball and decided to play a game of keepy-uppy. Just when it looked like they were having fun, the fourth official spotted them and he didn’t like what he saw.
Substitutes aren’t allowed to use the ball when they’re warming up during the game. The report claims that the three West Ham players were ‘scolded like little children‘ by the fourth official, Vladislav Bezborodov.
How did the trio respond?
As soon as the fourth official jumped off his seat to stop Rice, Fornals and Fredericks’ little game, the report claims that the West Ham trio apologised to the Russian, who then went back to his area.
As soon as the official took their eyes off them, the three substitutes reportedly ‘grinned like children caught misbehaving’.
Rice, Fornals and Fredericks definitely didn’t mean to cause any harm with their little game. They were just trying to have some fun while keeping themselves warm, but the official had to do his job and he did that well.
West Ham fans won’t care about that one bit. They’re all delighted that they are through to the next round with a game to spare.
