Report shares role Tottenham believe Oliver Skipp could have in future

There is still a belief amongst some at Tottenham Hotspur that Oliver Skipp has the potential to be a club captain in the future, .

Skipp has been a revelation over the last couple of years. It is almost remarkable to think that 12 months ago, he was gearing up for the business end of a Championship promotion race with Norwich City.

He was integral with the Canaries. And that prompted Tottenham to make the seemingly brave decision to snub loan offers from the Premier League and keep Skipp in their ranks this season.

They have not regretted that decision in the slightest. Skipp has been brilliant for much of the campaign, starting with a midfield masterclass against Manchester City on the opening day.

He has largely been a regular fixture under Antonio Conte. And he has continued to impress. Alan Shearer suggested he was ‘excellent‘ against Crystal Palace on Boxing Day.

And it seems that some at Tottenham could see Skipp taking on more responsibility in the future.

that they believe that he is a future club captain.

Timing could be perfect for Skipp to take Tottenham captaincy after Harry Kane

Of course, Lloris currently has the armband. And it seems more than likely that Harry Kane will succeed him. But he is surely a contender once Kane needs replacing.

He is a 21-year-old who rarely looks overawed by the occasion. And clearly, he is someone who knows exactly what the club means to the fans. He has spent nearly a decade on Tottenham’s books now.

Obviously, it is imperative that he continues to improve. Unfortunately, Spurs fans have seen a few players struggle to kick on after starting brilliantly. His midfield partner Harry Winks is one whose development seemed to stagnate for a few years.

But Tottenham clearly believe that Skipp has the mentality to lead the side in the future. So you would imagine that they are confident that he will be one to set the standard in the years to come.
