Everton have seen an opening bid of £5 million plus add-ons for Daniel Jebbison rejected by Sheffield United, .
Jebbison is attracting attention after becoming the youngest Premier League player to score on their first start last season. That goal came against the Toffees.
The Athletic suggests that Everton are expected to make a fresh offer for the 18-year-old at some stage.
Of course, a deal would evoke memories for many of the 2016 move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Calvert-Lewin moved to Goodison Park from Bramall Lane at the age of 19. And after taking a little while to find his feet on Merseyside, the England international has established himself as the Toffees’ talisman.
He has scored 31 Premier League goals since the start of the 2019/20 campaign, including 16 last term.
So you can understand why Everton would like to replicate that sort of deal with Jebbison.
But perhaps, it could prove to be even more inspired than the agreement struck almost five years ago.
that some around Sheffield United believe that Jebbison is actually a bigger prospect than Calvert-Lewin was at the same age.
The Athletic notes that the Blades could loan him out before the window shuts. But it would appear that Everton hope to secure a permanent deal before he heads elsewhere.

Rafa Benitez has not splashed the cash since arriving at Everton. In fact, the Toffees have barely spent a penny in comparison with their top flight rivals.
It does actually appear to have been a successful window at Goodison. Both Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray have already made an impact.
But the icing on the cake would come if Everton pulled something special out of the bag in the final days of the window.
A move for Jebbison may not see the club break any records. But based on the opinion some at Sheffield United have of him, it could potentially prove to be an inspired piece of business if they can get a deal done.
