Report: Serie A star’s entourage in talks with Saint-Maximin agents over potential Newcastle move
that the agents of Fiorentina goalkeeper Alban Lafont have contacted Allan Saint-Maximin’s representatives ahead of a potential move to Newcastle United – or another Premier League side this summer.
Lafont, 22, came through the ranks at French side Toulouse and broke into the side – quickly emerging as one of France’s biggest goalkeeping products in recent years. He has been touted to eventually replace Hugo Lloris between the sticks.
He clocked up 106 appearances for Toulouse before moving to Italian side Fiorentina in the summer of 2018 – where he was first choice in his first season, keeping 10 clean sheets in 38. However, he then agreed a two-year loan at FC Nantes.
After 53 games, that loan is set to come to an end this summer – and £8million () signing Lafont is set to return to Fiorentina, but he wants a move to the Premier League and his agents have contacted Saint-Maximin’s over a Toon move.

TBR’s view – Do Newcastle need Lafont?
The goalkeeping area is the last place Newcastle need new players. Karl Darlow has broken past Martin Dubravka into the starting line-up, with Dubravka already established as one of the Premier League’s better goalkeepers.
Freddie Woodman continues to shine on loan at Swansea. However, that could all change given that Dubravka might be tempted to leave after losing his place to Darlow – while Woodman may feel he needs to leave The Toon permanently.
If that happens, then Lafont would be a good addition – but only if Woodman and Dubravka depart.
