Report: Second-placed side may rival Levy for Tottenham-linked gem who lauded Spurs star
AC Milan are considering a move to sign RB Leipzig midfielder and Tottenham Hotspur target Marcel Sabitzer, according to .
The Rossoneri have been forced to target a new maestro after Hakan Calhanoglu switched allegiances to city rivals Inter Milan. The Turkey international sealed a free transfer to the Nerazzurri after his contract expired.
Technical Director Paolo Maldini is not rushing to replace Calhanoglu but is eying deals for Sabitzer and Dani Ceballos. The Spaniard has returned to Real Madrid after a two-year loan with Arsenal but is unlikely to remain in Spain.

Milan are eager to explore Sabitzer’s situation and believe a deal is possible as his Leipzig contract expires next summer. Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech also features on their shortlist, along with Mattia Zaccagni of Verona.
Sabitzer may prove too expensive for Milan and are aware of the high costs associated with any transfer. The Rossoneri may also face competition from Tottenham Hotspur, who have held a long-standing interest.
Jose Mourinho sought to sign Sabitzer last summer but Leipzig priced the Portuguese out of a deal by demanding €50m (£43m). But now expect the Bundesliga club to accept €15m (£13m) due to his contract situation.
Sabitzer has also made clear his desires for a new challenge after six seasons at Leipzig. The Austrian leaving would be a big blow for the Saxony side as he is their captain and offered plus seven assists last season.
Tottenham should beat Milan to Leipzig star Sabitzer
Milan can pose a real threat to Tottenham in the race to raid Leipzig and sign Sabitzer this summer. The Serie A side will be desperate for a gifted box-to-box maestro of his quality to replace the departed Calhanoglu.
No Rossoneri player provided as Calhanoglu (12) last season, who also offered nine goals. The Turkish gem also played 100 key passes in the Serie A, 18 more than any other player across the division, per .
Milan will also be eager to sign a player of greater quality than Calhanoglu after he left for Inter Milan. The Nerazzurri beat the Rossoneri to the Serie A title last season, with the San Siro duo locking out the top two.
Sabitzer is a big fan of Harry Kane, though, after lauding the Tottenham star as ‘one of the best strikers’ in the world. That may help Levy bring the midfielder to north London and offer the next Spurs manager a top-draw playmaker.
