Report: Ruben Neves wanted by Jose Mourinho if gets Real Madrid job

, Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves is wanted by Jose Mourinho – if he replaces Zinedine Zidane as manager.

Apparently the currently out-of-work Portuguese is a big fan of his compatriot, and has placed him on a three-man shortlist which also contains Erling Haaland of RB Salzburg and Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen.

Zidane is supposedly under mounting pressure at the Bernabeu.

Los Blancos were knocked off top spot in La Liga at the weekend after losing to Real Mallorca, and they scraped a 1-0 win over Galatasaray in the Champions League last night.

That was their first win in the competition after drawing with Club Brugge 2-2 and losing their opener to Paris Saint-Germain 3-0.

TBR’s view – Wolves must stay firm over Neves

Should Mourinho succeed Zidane at Real, then Wolves should rebuff any approach for Neves.

The midfield metronome is one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s key players – despite some patchy form of late – and, although he would fetch a huge sum, Wolves don’t need to be selling any time soon.

£50,000-a-week star Neves () is still only 22 and there is plenty of time in his career for a big move.

It’s important for him to keep developing in an environment where he is selected week in week out.

Wolves are an ambitious club and Neves has every chance of winning some silverware at Molineux whilst being the main man.
