Report: Roma eye Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren to replace Chris Smalling
Italian giants, Roma, could make a move for Dejan Lovren as they look to replace on-loan Manchester United defender Chris Smalling this summer.
, the Rome club are not willing to pay the €25m the Red Devils are demanding for Smalling.

That has led officials in the Italian capital to compile a list of potential replacements for the 30-year-old. Among those replacements, Lovren has been named as someone who interests the former Serie A winners.
Lovren has found himself on the periphery of things for Liverpool this season. Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are firmly the first-choice central defensive partnership at Anfield. Joel Matip is also a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
Smalling has been in fine form since making a loan switch from United in the summer. However, it is widely expected that the former Fulham man will return to Old Trafford this summer.

United will be keen to find a buyer for their man. Indeed, t that the likes of Spurs, Arsenal, and Liverpool could all be on red-alert this summer.
Lovren needs out of Liverpool and Roma could work out well – TBR View
Lovren has done his bit for Liverpool over the years but it’s clear to see he isn’t at the level they need right now.
There’s a noticeable difference in the performance levels of the team when Lovren has to step in for Van Dijk.
Still, at 30, he has plenty in the locker to offer. Serie A is not quite played at the same frantic speed as the PL, so Lovren could well get a good few years in the tank over in Italy.
Roma is, as well, still a huge club. Lovren would hope to follow Smalling’s lead and prove successful over in the Italian capital.
