Report: Roma could turn attention to Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld

Italian giants Roma could reportedly turn attention to Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld.

, the Serie A club are keen to sign a new defender this summer and their priority is Real Betis’ Marc Bartra.

The report details that they are now considering Alderweireld as an alternative and are admirers of him.

Alderweireld, who earns £80,000-a-week (), has built up his reputation as one of the most consistent centre-backs in Europe during recent years.

The 30-year-old has been an ever-present in the Spurs backline and a rock for manager Mauricio Pochettino.

He is entering the final year of his contract though with the North London club and has a £25million release clause that becomes active this summer ().

TBR’s View:

Alderweireld looks in an extremely vulnerable position to leave Spurs this summer and he would be a mammoth loss if he does exit.

The Belgium international has proved in the Premier League he’s a class act and played an important role in Spurs finishing as runners-up in last season’s Champions League.

He is still in the peak years of his career and would no doubt make a big impact in Italy if Roma did swoop for him.

Spurs fans should be desperate to find out the future of the ball-playing centre-back beyond this summer.
