Report: Roma could decline chance to sign Arsenal midfielder permanently
Roma could pass on the opportunity to sign Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a permanent deal if they don’t qualify for the Champions League,
The 30-year-old was allowed to end his Emirates Stadium nightmare and head for Serie A during the summer transfer window.
Roma included an option to buy the attacking midfielder in the summer of 2019 in the original loan deal; although whether they take that offer up may be determined by their success this season.

Paulo Fonseca’s team are currently fifth in the league, three points behind Atalanta who have played a game less.
Mikel Arteta will want to stamp his own authority on the squad. The Gunners don’t look like qualifying for the Champions League either and that could leave the Armenia captain in limbo.
Mkhitaryan is paid £180,000-a-week at Arsenal and the current boss would surely love to free up those funds towards his own new additions.
It could be a busy summer for the Gunners with lots of incoming and outgoing activity likely to take place.
Injury has prevented Mkhitaryan from making a significant impact this season. He has scored six times and registered four assists from his 17 appearances, however.
Future
Fonseca has said this season that he’d like to sign the man with 86 caps for his country , but failing to earn a Champions League spot could see them look elsewhere.

Mkhitaryan signed for the Gunners in 2018 with Alexis Sanchez heading to Manchester United in a straight swap deal.
He made just 59 appearances for Arsenal, scoring nine goals and registering 13 assists.
It’ll be interesting to see what does happen should Roma fail to reach the Champions League and it could lead to Arsenal desperately trying to source a buyer.
