Report: Rennes want to sign Arsenal defender William Saliba on loan
Arsenal defender William Saliba has emerged as a loan target for Ligue 1 outfit Rennes,
The 19-year-old signed for the Gunners prior to last season but was allowed to stay at Saint-Etienne on loan for the 2019/20 campaign.
Arsenal paid £27 million for the teenager and it had been anticipated that he’d feature under Mikel Arteta this season.
It would seem as though the Gunners signing Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille has knocked him down the pecking order, however, with the club not against another temporary move.

Saliba made the bench for the win over Liverpool in the Community Shield and for the win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.
He wasn’t involved last night though and he’s not been in a matchday squad for any of the three Premier League games.
During 2019/20 he played 17 times for Saint-Etienne, helping them reach the Coupe de France final.
The season being curtailed meant that the youngster was unable to feature in the showpiece match, with it being played after he had returned to Arsenal.
Rennes are looking to bolster their defensive ranks this summer, with Jeremy Morel and Joris Gnagnon having departed the club.
and if Saliba isn’t going to play football at the Emirates Stadium then it perhaps seems like an ideal opportunity for him to head out on loan once more.
The stylish central defender is paid £40,000-a-week at the Emirates Stadium and his departure would create a bit of space for manoeuvre in Arteta’s squad.
TBR View – Saliba has time on his side and a loan wouldn’t be the end of the world
Arsenal fans have been desperate to see Saliba in action but it would seem they might have to wait a little while longer.
It had been anticipated that he might come back from last season’s loan and be ready to shine in the Premier League.

Arteta has earned a lot of trust from the Gunners faithful, however, and if he doesn’t think he is quite ready then so be it.
With Gabriel at the club and David Luiz and Rob Holding both ahead of him in the ranks, it does seem like a sensible move.
Saliba hasn’t played loads of men’s football and another loan spell could put him in prime shape to compete for a place ahead of next season.
