Report: Raphinha wants lower release clause to sign new Leeds deal

Raphinha has rejected a new contract at Leeds United, that the Brazilian wants his release clause price to drop before he signs fresh terms at Elland Road.

Raphinha’s future is likely to be a talking point throughout the coming months. For many Leeds fans, the Whites would be in serious trouble without his goals in the earlier stages of the campaign.

Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Barcelona are amongst the clubs keen on the winger. And the Catalan giants have already spoken to his agent Deco.

Leeds fans would love for Raphinha to stay at least one more year. But what will not help is his contract is set to run until 2024. Unsurprisingly, Leeds have wanted to agree an extension with the 25-year-old.

Unfortunately, reaching an agreement has proved problematic so far. that no fresh talks are currently planned after reaching a stalemate previously.

Leeds have offered to almost double Raphinha’s wages. However, he has previously told the club that he only wants to sign a new contract that sees the price of his release clause of £70 million drop.

Leeds may be in two minds about meeting Raphinha demands

Much may depend on what sort of offers Leeds receive for Raphinha this summer. Obviously, they still need to ensure that they remain in the top-flight.

UOL notes that Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barca have all got the ball rolling as they look to sign Raphinha this summer.

If a club makes a £60 million bid, Leeds may feel that the time is right to let Raphinha go.

Ideally, Jesse Marsch may want one more year out of the attacker. But Leeds have to factor in that he could end next season with just 12 months left on his deal.
