Report: Rangers want London-based midfielder on loan, Gerrard has expressed his interest but is not alone
that Steven Gerrard is one of a number of managers interested in taking Billy Gilmour on loan. The Chelsea midfielder has endured a tricky few days – and could be set for a move away from Chelsea. A return to Rangers for Gilmour might be on the cards.
Gilmour, 20, was left out of Scotland’s side for their Euro 2020 opener against Czech Republic – a 2-0 loss. However, he was inserted into the starting line-up against England and got the man-of-the-match award. However, he instantly returned a positive test and had to isolate.
He missed the last game against Croatia. A summer of highs and lows, then. Now, Gilmour could leave Chelsea and complete a sensational return to Rangers on loan – the club Chelsea bought him from for £500,000 Gerrard has expressed his interest, but is not alone in wanting Gilmour.

Gilmour would be a stunning signing for Rangers
Not just because Gilmour is ex-Rangers, but because Rangers could also do with a midfielder in his mould. Steven Davis will turn 37 next January, while Ryan Jack is somewhat injury prone – missing Euro 2020. The Gers need another option in midfield, as the Champions League awaits.
Why not a player that knows what it means to be Rangers, one that understands the rivalries. One that is a fan, before he is a player. Gilmour is that. Whether Chelsea will allow a move to Rangers, or prefer £43k-a-week () Gilmour to remain in the Premier League – is still to be seen.
