Report: Rangers transfer boost as Anderlecht consider Kemar Roofe sale

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard might have just been handed a boost in hopes of improving the striking options at Ibrox as one of his apparent main transfer targets could now be available.

Rangers currently have Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe at their disposal at Ibrox. However, Gerrard has always preferred to have three striking options and Rangers are lacking in that area with the expiration of Florian Kamberi’s loan deal.

One player Rangers have repeatedly been linked with bringing to Glasgow is Kemar Roofe.

They were linked last year, with Gerrard said to be keen, as a potential replacement should Morelos have forced a move.

Unfortunately, Rangers’ interest came to nothing, as the Englishman headed to Belgian outfit Anderlecht instead.

Now, that the Belgian side could consider selling Roofe.

After failing to qualify for Europe for the first time in 56 years the Paars-wit are in need of financial stimulus.

Roofe is now seen as a potential sale, owing mainly to Rangers’ continued interest in the player. The report claims Rangers have already made attempts to sign Roofe and would be willing to spend a fee in the region of €6 million (£5.4m) to get their man.

Rangers’ interest came back to the fore last month, reporting the Glasgow side as keen once again if Morelos was to leave.

that Roofe was happy at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium and that Rangers, despite being of interest to Roofe, were barking up the wrong tree.

“I will stay at Anderlecht until someone tells me otherwise,” . “I don’t know whether Rangers made an offer for me. I’m happy here. My head is 100 percent with Anderlecht. As for Glasgow, I don’t think I’ve ever set foot in Scotland in my life.”

But with Anderlecht now willing to talk over a potential sale, he may end up being the sacrificial lamb to help ends meet at the Belgian club.

If so, then Rangers could be on to a winner with this versatile and lethal frontman, with or without Morelos.
