Report: Rangers to open talks with Bordeaux over Josh Maja

Rangers will reportedly open talks with French club Bordeaux this week over Josh Maja, with Alfredo Morelos seemingly on his way out of Ibrox.

, Light Blues representatives will sit down with their counterparts to discuss a potential transfer for Maja, who only joined the club from Sunderland in January 2019.

It has been a tricky time at Bordeaux for Maja, with injury and competition from other forwards hindering his progress.

The development comes off the back of reports claiming Gers striker Morelos is set to complete a move to Lille, with personal terms apparently already agreed.

Interestingly, Maja is represented by the same agency as current Rangers duo Joe Aribo and Sheyi Ojo – Elite Project Group – which may turn out to be significant.

Futhermore, Maja knows Jermain Defoe from his time at the Stadium of Light, with the former England striker commenting in 2018 that ‘the sky’s the limit’ for the player ().

It looks as though Morelos’ days at Ibrox are numbered.

Despite some obvious disciplinary issues, the Colombian has been a top signing for the club having scored 77 goals in 137 games.

His goalscoring prowess is going to be a tough act to follow, but perhaps Maja could be the man for the job.

It hasn’t really worked out at Bordeaux so far, but he still managed eight goals in all competitions in 2019/20.

He proved his eye for goal at Sunderland, scoring 17 goals in 49 appearances for the Black Cats, and if fans can get behind him and not compare him to Morelos, he could well make a smooth transition into Scottish football.
