Report: Rangers showing interest in defender that Brendan Rodgers signed for Celtic in 2018
Rangers are one of a number of clubs showing interest in KV Oostende defender Jack Hendry. Yes, that is the same Jack Hendry that penned a move to Celtic in January 2018 from Dundee. The Scotland international only left Celtic permanently this summer.
But Hendry, 26, is starring in Belgium. The defender returned to the Scotland fold and earned himself a place in their Euro 2020 squad after his season-long loan throughout 2020-21 at Oostende. He played 30 times last season, as Oostende gained a place in the Europa League qualifiers.
Defeat to Marseille has seen Oostende’s European dream fail early on – and Oostende may now need to sell to cover the losses. Hendry joined Oostende permanently this summer, but could leave just as quickly. The report states that the Belgian side are requesting his release clause: £5million.
The report claims Torino want him in Italy, while English clubs Southampton, Sheffield United and Brighton are all interested. Rangers are also keen, to sign a player that was signed by Brendan Rodgers for Celtic – playing 27 times at Parkhead. It remains to be seen Hendry’s stance.

Hendry to Rangers: Would Hendry put aside Celtic spell to sign?
What could play in the favour of Rangers, is that Hendry’s spell at Celtic was pretty poor. He hardly got a chance at Celtic, eventually leaving under Neil Lennon. His time at Celtic will not be remembered with fond memories, and the best thing Celtic did for him was send him to Oostende.
He is now club captain of the Belgian side, and shining in the Scotland team. A move back to Glasgow would be an incredibly bold one – he would be just one of a handful of players to do it. But given his Celtic troubles, Hendry moving to Rangers would not be enormously ridiculous. Strange, though.
